As well as all the on-site entertainment and activities at Hoburne Bashley Park throughout 2012 there are lots of local events going on. During the 2nd week of the Easter holiday from 9th - 15th April there is the Milford-On-Sea Food Festival http://www.milfordonseafoodweek.or .

From 19th - 24th June in Lymington there is an Arts Festival with exhibitions, live music, poetry, dance, drama etc at different locations throughout the week http://www.lymingtonartsfestival.org.uk .

Walk from Highcliffe to Mudeford and back through Steamer Point Nature Reserve

We have just had a bracing 4 mile walk from Highcliffe car park, along the beach to Mudeford Avon beach where we had a coffee and then took the clifftop path back through Steamer Point Nature Reserve http://www.dorsetforyou.com/386522 and Highcliffe Castle grounds.

A lovely day out, especially in the Autumn when it is a bit quieter, is to drive down to the Sandbanks ferry http://www.sandbanksferry.co.uk and cross the entrance of Poole Harbour on 'The Bramble Bush Bay' chainlink ferry to Shell Bay http://www.shellbay.net/ on Studland. Olympic Torch comes to Bournemouth - 2012

On 13th July 2012 the Olympic Torch relay will arrive in Bournemouth for an overnight stay. Local attractions and Places to Visit

There are many lovely places to explore in the New Forest. At this time of year Exbury Gardens, a 200acre estate filled with azaleas, rhododendrons and many rare trees and shrubs will be a riot of colour. Nearby places of interest include Christchurch Priory, Bucklers Hard Maritime Museum, Beaulieu National Motor Museum, The New Forest Museum and Visitor Centre and Sammy Miller's Motor Cycle Museum.

One of our favourite evening outings is to Lymington, where you can enjoy a meal and a drink and take a stroll by the quay and watch the many boats coming and going. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons throughout the summer you will also find different bands playing in the Bandstand. From Lymington you can also hop on a ferry and take a day trip to the Isle of Wight.

Walking in the New Forest

For anyone thinking of coming to stay in the New Forest and who enjoys walking, have a look at www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/walking. On this website you can print off maps of suggested walking routes of different lengths and difficulty, as well as download audio commentary or print off transcript of several interesting walks to take with you and listen to or read as you go.

A couple of walks listed with audio commentary are 'D-day and Lepe Beach' and 'Stoney Cross' which was once a World War 2 airfield. Other walks are the Nature Reserve at Keyhaven and Lyndhurst with it's connection to Alice in Wonderland.

I am looking forward to trying some of the walks when I get some free time.

Hoburne Bashley Park is very close to all the suggested walks and makes an ideal base for sightseeing, walking and cycle riding.

Why not combine a few days away in one of our holiday caravans with entering a charity bike ride to raise money for Help For Heroes New Forest Bike Ride 15 May 2011 - H4H fun in the forest!

This week a friend and I had a trip around some of the local attractions on Bashley's doorstep.

Our first visit was a 2 mile drive from Hoburne Bashley Park to Hordle Lakes, an eleven acre site with 7 spring-fed lakes filled with carp, tench etc. and where you can purchase day or night fishing permits. See their website www.hordle-lakes.co.uk for more information.

After visiting the lakes we drove through Bashley village, stopping off at Redcliffe Garden Centre and Burley Villa School of Riding where you can go for a hack out into the forest. The stables offers both 'traditional' or 'western trail' riding. www.burleyv@globalnet.co.uk.

Our next stop was at The Rising Sun public house which is an excellent place to take the family for a meal when holidaying at Hoburne Bashley Park. It has a large garden and play area to keep the children amused while you have a well-earned drink.

Just a bit further on is Wootton Bridge where you will find a small stream always very popular in the summer for paddling in.

Next stop was at Ferndale Farm Shop which I would recommend you go to for all your barbeque meats, salad and fruit - it is all excellent quality and very good value.

Our last stop of the morning was at Sammy Miller's Museum in Bashley Cross Road which also has a couple of craft shops and a tea room, which serves snacks, lunches, cream teas and Sunday roasts. www.sammymiller.co.uk

Deer at Bolderwood

Some friends stayed with us at the weekend and on their way home, heading for Lyndhurst, they turned left off the A35 opposite the turning to Rhinefield House, and drove down the Ornamental Drive (which is full of some of the tallest Douglas Pines in Britain) to Bolderwood, where every day the deer are fed and you can watch from a viewing platform. If you visit the New Forest, it is well worth going to see.

Drive on a little bit further and head for Fritham, where there are often a large number of Shetland ponies and where there is also a lovely little pub called the Royal Oak.
